Essential Mineral Balance for Health

The Essentials of Essentials

I used to work as a nutritional consultant for a large health chain. I have said before that often I learn as much from customers as perhaps they learn from me. I remember serving a customer who shared with me his ignorance of nutrition but went on to say he was a structural engineer. He told me that the future of supplements and the key to health had to rest more with mineral supplements than vitamins. Furthermore, he imparted to me that the strength of a steel bridge comes through the minerals added to iron. He embellished on that notion some more but his point has never been lost on me.

If you suffer from a health affliction such as Hemorrhoids, Gout, or issues of the colon, figure that you may be deficient in some minerals. Actually, probably most everyone is deficient in something or another. And... the human body is a complex picture of chemical reactions taking place every second of our lives. I think everyone should strive for balance in their mineral uptake. Easier said than done. For most every supplement taken such as Calcium, an imbalance can be created elsewhere. Calcium supplementation takes Vitamin C out of the body and vice versa. A hair or finger nail lab analysis can give a breakdown of mineral content in the body and suggest deficiencies or toxic levels of elements such as Mercury or Cadnium. One tip I have for addressing that balance is the addition of a Kelp supplement in tablet or capsule form. Kelp is a sea vegetable and a broad spectrum of trace minerals present that are known to help balance the essential minerals needed for optimum health. I will expand on this topic in future blogs.
