Rout the Gout
I have complete empathy for anyone who suffers with Gout and the pain and suffering that goes with it. Many customers have tried to share with me how bad the suffering is and I often hear, "I would not wish this on my worst enemy." I shared with a recent customer how I have been told that smashing your foot repeatedly with a sledge hammer may come close to describing the constant pain some people endure with Gout. A recent customer corrected me by sharing his description. He rides Motocross motorcycles, and had a severe accident while riding in the dessert. He had multiple injuries to the ball of his foot, and spent a good deal of time in hospital and then recovery. At the same time he had the motorcycle accident, he also ended up suffering concurrently with an episode of Gout. He told me that the pain of Gout suffering dwarfed all the pain of his foot injuries from the accident. It is safe to say that Gout can affect more nerve endings than other types of trauma or injury.
There are prescription medications taken orally for Gout. They all have side effects, many serious, and almost without exception they take a heavy toll on liver, and sometimes kidney health as well. One of the most widely prescribed drugs for Gout is Allopurinol. I am told that one out of three patients can not tolerate the drug, and for many it can make the symptoms of Gout worse. More than one customer of ours has shared with me that they started with Gout in their big toe, went on Allopurinol, and now have Gout in every joint in their body. Also, another complaint that repeats itself is where a customer shares with me they have been taking a prescription that used to work, but has become less and less effective at treating the pain for Gout over time. Figure that if you are taking something that only treats the symptoms, but further degrades the health of the liver or kidneys, you may be better served by seeking a natural approach to the disease of Gout.
