Probiotics for Hemorrhoid Relief and Gout Symptoms

Probiotics means 'good' bacteria. The term refers to the beneficial flora or bacteria that propigate the human intestinal tract and are responsible for optimum health. There is no question and little debate that probiotics have a distinct bearing on colon health and consequent suffering from disease or illness. Currently the Probiotic industry generates about $5 billion dollars yearly and is set to explode to @ $20 billion dollars annually in the next five years or so. Each manufacturer of Probiotics makes unique claims are to the effectiveness of their product, sometimes backed by science, sometimes not.

Here is my take on the subject. Probiotics are necessary and an integral part of the picture of good health. The problem is that in my view, nobody has a complete handle on the subject. I talk to doctors, biochemists, formulators and manufacturers and have yet to meet anyone who has all the answers. There exists a lot of conjecture and guesswork in the marketplace and in the Nutrition industry. Here is why. I do not think anyone has the perfect snapshot or picture of what a perfect colon should be. If the spectrum of necessary bacteria could be quantified such as 20% of bifidus bacteria, 35% of acidopholus, etc., then we would have a better way of measuring success with supplementation of acidopholus or probiotic foods or supplements. Of course fecal analysis can provide an indication of bacteria present in the colon, and certainly can provide evidence of bad bacteria or pathogens present. But still a standard is lacking for being able to proclaim this is a perfect colon or stool sample.

Here is the good news; a lot of research and science is being applied to the subject. One need to look no further than their local grocery store to see the proliferation of new products. Activa yogurt is a new product that I often recommend to our Hemorrhoid sufferers especially if they suffer with constipative issues or hard stools. Activa has their own patented strain of bacteria as the yogurt culture present, backed by the claim on the label that the product promotes intestinal regularity. I do think that particular yogurt has merits, and my 9 year old daughter used it for a couple of weeks to overcome constipation. I think in the years to come, more effective products will be available. Probiotic cereals, nutrition bars, and other probiotic foods are surfacing on multiple fronts. I think the litmus test for an effective probiotic product should be this; is it working?? Do you feel benefit?

If you suffer with Hemorrhoids also known as piles, Gout Pain or Gout symptoms, consider the need for establishing a good bacterial balance for optimum health. One thing not mentioned here is the need for establishing an environment that actually promotes good bacterial balance. That subject can often be overlooked by those taking a probiotic supplement.
